Answer our health survey. A BC-licensed ND clinician will review it and decide whether this test is right for you. They may message you or ask for a short call. If they order it, you get a LifeLabs requisition. If not, they'll tell you why.

2Blood draw

Schedule your blood draw at any LifeLabs.

3Your result

The ND who ordered the test reviews your result first and contacts you directly if anything needs attention. Then your ApoB lands in your dashboard with its target range. Retest any time and every result goes on the same chart.

Why ApoB

The cholesterol number your regular panel leaves out

If you've been reading about heart health, you've probably seen ApoB come up. Here's the short version.

What it measures

Cholesterol moves through your blood inside tiny particles. A standard test measures how much cholesterol those particles are carrying. ApoB counts the particles themselves. That's the number that matters, because it's the particles that get stuck in artery walls.

Why the standard test can miss it

Two people can get the same LDL result and have very different particle counts. The standard panel can't tell them apart. ApoB can.

What the test is like

One tube of blood at any LifeLabs, no fasting. If you've had a cholesterol test before, this is the same thing without the empty stomach.

Questions

Do I need a doctor or a referral?
No referral and no family doctor needed. You complete a short intake, and a licensed clinician reviews it and orders the test if it's appropriate for you.
Do I need to fast?
No. ApoB is not meaningfully affected by a recent meal, so you can go in at any time of day.
Why can't my doctor just order it?
Often they can. Many people come to us because they have no family doctor, or want a direct route to measure it regularly without scheduling a doctor appointment each time.
Where is my health data stored?
In Canada. Your health data is never sold, and you can delete it whenever you like.
